Mr. Nasruddin Milad Al-Fazani, the Minister of Tourism in Libya, participated on Tuesday, October 21, 2024, in the ceremony of organizing the opening of the Ghadames Shopping and Heritage Days Festival. The festival includes cultural events, awareness lectures, in addition to showcasing handmade products and a date exhibition.
The aim of the festival is to encourage the organization of such events and to promote the city of Ghadames, a key destination for foreign tourists due to its historical significance as one of UNESCO's World Heritage sites.
The festival is fully organized and secured by the Libyan Ministry of Interior and will run for three consecutive days, from the 23rd to the 26th of October in the city of Ghadames. The event also aims to highlight traditional artworks and offers visitors the chance to explore the city’s streets and neighborhoods, along with its historical landmarks, while promoting traditional products from crafts and handmade goods.
The city of Ghadames, where the festival takes place, is located near the Libyan, Tunisian, and Algerian border triangle. Known for its desert climate, it is often referred to as the "Jewel of the Desert" in Libya. It hosts many archaeological and historical landmarks, most notably the Old City of Ghadames, the Ghadames Museum, and Ain al-Faras.
