On October 16, 2024, the International Book Fair kicked off in the city of Tripoli, the capital of Libya, under the patronage of His Excellency the Attorney General, Al-Seddik Al-Sour, and with the attendance of the head of the Administrative Control Authority, the Minister of Justice of the Government of National Unity, along with a group of members from the judiciary, heads of authorities, officials, and several writers, authors, ambassadors, and heads of accredited missions in Libya.
The Tripoli International Book Fair
in its first edition, will last for nine consecutive days from October 16 to 26, with participation from more than 20 countries, 50 agencies, and 200 publishers, including countries such as Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, the United Kingdom, France, Kuwait, Lebanon, and others.
According to the General Authority for Exhibitions, it is considered the "largest book fair in the Middle East," featuring a vast collection of books across various literary, intellectual, legal, religious, and educational fields, making it a comprehensive and diverse cultural platform, including cultural seminars, workshops, and open dialogues with writers and thinkers.
The fair includes many halls, buildings, restaurants, and cafes that provide services to visitors. There are also branches of major Libyan companies and brands, such as Al-Alama Insurance Company and the famous Café Latte restaurant, along with a media center dedicated to the fair.
Additionally, it features a museum showcasing some artifacts, statues, and ancient coins for visitors to discover the historical Libyan civilization, along with some images and sculptures displayed on the walls.
According to the official website of the Tripoli International Book Fair, its objectives are:
- To encourage national companies to compete with foreign companies in organizing exhibitions and events and to create job opportunities within the Libyan market.
- To promote trade exchange between Libya and regional and global countries.
- To encourage and support exports from local industries.
- To work on qualifying the Tripoli International Fair to obtain certification for compliance with international standard specifications ISO 9001:2015.
- To establish a policy for the optimal investment of the Tripoli International Fair facilities to diversify the sources of revenue for the fair without affecting the activities of organizing exhibitions.
- To work on organizing more events in favor of the management of the Tripoli International Fair.
- To work on reopening the audio channel for the Tripoli International Fair 2022.
- To work on establishing partnership agreements with local or international fairs during the year.
- To introduce modern technology for managing the Tripoli International Fair through the application of electronic management within the administrative offices of the Tripoli International Fair.
- To build a database capable of providing information for those interested in exhibitions.
The fair also aims to enhance cultural and legal awareness in Libyan society, highlighting the importance of cooperation between regulatory and judicial institutions to achieve transparency and develop knowledge in various fields.
